Pregnancy Week 4

PREGNANCY WEEK 4

Women are usually pregnant for nine months….. for 40 weeks or 280 days, which is actually just over nine calendar months. However, you are actually pregnant for weeks, and only know that you are for approximately 36 weeks! This is because during doctors call the first few weeks of pregnancy conception has not yet occurred

It can be confusing but remember that the first day of your period is the first day of your period and the first day of your menstrual cycle, and it’s considered to be the first day of week 1.

An egg needs to be fertilised within approximately 24 hours of ovulation or it begins to break down. Sperm however can survive for a few days while waiting to fertilise an egg, this take place in the fallopian tube and is the process by which one singular sperm enters the egg. Humans have 46 chromosomes in each of their cells, apart from in eggs or sperm; these contain only 23 chromosomes. When the sperm enters the egg, fertilisation occurs and a cell within 46 chromosomes is produced. From this point onwards, this one cell has the potential to turn into a baby

You do not need to go to your doctor to confirm a pregnancy as the urine tests used by doctors are the same as those bought over the counter. A blood test can be done to detect the levels of HCG in the bloodstream but the urine tests are accurate enough to confirm pregnancy.
